Shepherd's Kids Cafe
According to the 2006 Almanac on Hunger and Poverty in America, Oklahoma ranks fourth in the nation in hunger insecurity (fear of not having another meal) and first in actual hunger.
Mission Shawnee is addressing this problem, and we need your help. On Monday, June 2, our third summer of lunches and Bible stories will open to some 200 children in approximately 7 locations. This ministry will climax the week of July 21-25 with a week of VBS in the Park.
The vast majority of elementary children in Shawnee are on a free or reduced lunch program. Many families experience a crisis when school is out and there is often not enough food at home.
For the third year, we will seek to address that need through Shepherd's Kids Cafe. Your help is needed: Volunteer cooks, drivers, site coordinators, Bible storytellers, and site helpers are urgently needed. Your financial gifts are needed to provide the $10,000-12,000 needed to support this program. And most of all, your prayers are needed for the children and their families. |
