Mission Shawnee -- Working together, Sharing God's love

Good Shepherd Chapel

Before there was Mission Shawnee, there was Good Shepherd Chapel. The ministry was started as a Sunday evening Bible study and recreation program at Immanuel Baptist Church. It was a way of reaching children in the community who found it difficult to get up on Sunday mornings to catch a church van. Beginning with a dozen or so kids, the ministry doubled in size within a few months. That next Spring, worship was added and the Good Shepherd name was adopted. The combination of recreation, Bible study, supper, and worship caught on. During the summer of 2005, the ministry literally exploded in size. Presently, 80-100 attend each week. Classes are held for men, women, teenagers, elementary grades, and preschoolers.

From the beginning, ministry needs emerged. Families needed food. Kids needed school supplies and clothes. The list went on to include rent assistance, help with utility bills, and toys and clothes for Christmas.

In August 2007, Good Shepherd Chapel took the first step toward becoming a church. With the help of several Baptist entities, including Immanuel Baptist Church, a co-pastor and youth pastor were brought on board. Click here to go to the Good Shepherd Chapel website.
